Information for Instructors and
Workshop Leaders
So you think you'd like to put on a class or workshop?
Here is all you need to know!
London Visual Arts Guild is a 501(c)3 charitable organization which manages the Gallery on High and Studio 7. Studio 7 is the space we use for art related workshops and classes. While there is no rent
charged to have these classes, LVAG does request that you donate back a minimum of 10%
of your earnings to help with operating expenses. Class fees are strictly between the instructor and students. LVAG does not set class prices, but we encourage instructors to remember the charitable nature of our group and to keep fees as small as possible. We always welcome free workshops and classes for
our community as well!
Classes are scheduled during the Spring (March, April,
May), Summer (June, July, August) and Fall (September, October, November) quarters. One-day workshops can be scheduled in December, January and February (though the Gallery is closed in January).
Information for your class or classes must be submitted one month
before the quarter classes are to begin. For example, Spring quarter class information is due by the beginning of February. Turn all information in to Colleen Van Steen,
Education Director at
greenestones@aol.com to
make sure there are no conflicts in scheduling. This information will then
be turned into a brochure, sent to our email list and the Madision
Messenger, then posted to our website.
Times to Avoid:
- Tuesday evenings after 4 pm, are
reserved for “Open Studio” and board meetings.
- The first Friday of the
month, 5-8pm is reserved for artist’s receptions.
- The second Friday of the month, 4-6pm is reserved for "Writers'
Group" meetings.
- Everything else is open
for classes and workshops.
Instructor's Responsibilities:
- Open and close at your designated class time.
- Arrive early to set up before students arrive.
- You may turn the heat or air conditioning up when you arrive, but MUST return it to the previous setting at the end of class.
- Clean up after yourself: Empty trash, straighten up the room and vacuum if necessary before
leaving.
- There are some donated materials you may use if needed. Provide all
other materials or give a list of materials to your students to
purchase.
- Remember, in setting your fee, members are given 20% off of classes.
- Give a donation of 10% of your class fees for the
use of the building.
- Students should make checks payable to the instructor.
- You may cancel classes one week prior to the beginning day of the
class if you do not meet the minimum number of students required.
What we need from You, the Instructor:
- A photo of yourself, with a brief description about yourself and
your qualifications for teaching this class in 50 words or less.
First time instructors need to list references for a background check.
- A title and brief description of the class or workshop you are
planning to teach. You can see samples of our class offerings in
previous brochures, or talk to our Education Director for suggestions.
- How how many times and for how long will the class meet? What days and
times work best for you? We will try our best to schedule all the
classes being offered.
- List the maximum and minimum number of students. List the age group.
We usually say 7th grade on up to adults, or if for younger students we
list the grade levels that are suitable for the class.
- What materials does the student need to supply, and what is the cost
of the class?
- Optional: a flyer of your class with more detailed information.
